“Villa Petrolea” was, in fact, not a single villa but a planned community located in the village of Keshle on the outskirts of Baku. The “Villa” was established on the initiative of Branobel’s founders, with Branobel funding. The community was built especially for the employees of the company.

Branobels förvaltarbostad i Baku var Villa Petrolea. Först kring sekelskiftet 1900 blev bolaget mycket lönsamt. Vid bolsjevikernas övertagande av oljefälten lyckades likväl familjen Nobel sälja hälften av sina aktier till Standard Oil New York och det beräknas att 12 procent av Alfred Nobels förmögenhet har sitt ursprung i dessa aktier.
